|I've been drawing and painting almost all of my life. I began oil painting about 35 years ago. If you've looked through this Web site, you've probably realized that animals are my favorite subjects. They're also some of my best friends: My husband and I have Lottie, Barney, Smudge, Charlie, Bill, Ted and Connie, the cats; Janie, a Thoroughbred ex-racehorse; Lucy, Maddie and Gus, the dogs; and Larry, the crested duck who just dropped in one spring and never left. And gone in the summer of 2006 were Gilbert, a pot-bellied pig, of old age; and Chewy, another Thoroughbred, had to be put down because of a neurological condition at 16.
I was born and raised in the Central Valley of California. I married and moved to Southern Oregon, where I lived for 20 years and raised my two children. I've worked at newspapers in Grants Pass, Ore., Fairfield, Calif., Missoula, Mont., and Yakima, Wash.
In early 2005, I quit my day job as copy desk chief at the Yakima Herald-Republic so that I could spend more time painting and working at graphics and design.
In my more than 20 years of working at newspapers, I've worked in nearly all aspects of graphic design. I've also edited stories, written headlines and designed news and feature pages. I've redesigned one newspaper and been involved in two redesigns of another.
I've done free-lance graphics and design for more than 25 years.
Thanks for visiting my Web site and looking around. I hope you enjoyed my art. Be sure to check back; I'll be updating the site with new paintings whenever I get the chance.
In September three of my paintings won ribbons at the Central Washington State Fair: "Pig in a Pool" took second place in the professional oils category. "Are You Awake?" got a third place, and "Janie and the Magpies" received an honorable mention.
Then all three of those paintings as well as "There's a Pig in My Pool!' were accepted into the Larson Gallery's 50th Annual Central Washington Artists Competition. Artists from 10 counties are invited to submit their work to this prestigious show. This year there were more than 300 entries, and 102 of those were accepted.
